BASIC ARCHIVES — AN INTRODUCTION TO ARCHIVAL PRACTICE

April 13-17, 2015   9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  Suite 201, 15 Hallett Crescent, St. John’s, NL

This five-day workshop is intended to introduce participants to basic archival skills through in-class exercises and “hands-on” demonstrations. Sessions are taught by professional archivists from the provincial archival community.  Topics covered include:

  • Appraisal and selection
  • Accessioning
  • Arrangement
  • Description
  • Preservation
  • Reference and access

Registration fee: $150 (includes 1-year individual membership)

Registration deadline: Participants must register for this course by April 7, 2015.

The Association of Newfoundland and Labrador Archives presents a workshop on

Preservation of Photographic Images

Dates: March 19-20, 2015 (1.5 days)

Location:  ANLA office – Suite 201, 15 Hallett Crescent, St. John’s, NL

Instructors: Conservator Paula French and well-known Newfoundland and Labrador photograph expert Manny Buchheit

This workshop will discuss the care, storage and handling of historical photographs, negatives, photograph albums and framed images.  The instructors will also discuss policies for the exhibition of photographic images and the reproduction of photographs. The workshop will also include a special half-day session on the history of photography in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Registration fees:                 Members: $75

Non-members: $100
