Confederation 75 Content Submissions

As part of the Confederation 75 celebrations occurring all over the province this year, ANLA would like to invite you to submit your Confederation content to be highlighted on our website.

If you have completed a Confederation 75 exhibit or have some interesting pieces in your collection, this is a great way to round off the year!

Any digital content is welcome including audio clips, images, video, or pictures of your relevant objects and exhibits. Please submit your content through email before December 6th, 2024, and use the form below to provide us with some information.

ANLA AGM 2015

ANLA’s AGM was held on June 29, 2015. Many thanks to all who were able to attend and to the archives an the St. John’s campus of Memorial University who welcomed attendees for behind the scenes tours.

New funding program announced

Library and Archives Canada (LAC) is pleased to announce the launch of its new Documentary Heritage Communities Program (DHCP). This contribution program is a collaborative approach which will ensure the outreach of Canada’s local documentary heritage communities.

The contributions will support the development of Canada’s local archival and library communities, as well as their professional associations, by increasing their capacity to preserve, provide access to and promote documentary heritage and will provide opportunities for local documentary heritage communities to evolve and remain sustainable.

LAC invites all eligible organizations to apply at their earliest convenience. The deadline for the 2015 funding cycle is September 4, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.

Simple Preservation Treatments Workshop, June 30 2015

Simple Preservation Treatments for Flat, Paper-based Records

When: June 30, 2015 (the day after ANLA’s AGM)

Where: ANLA office – Suite 201, 15 Hallett Crescent, St. John’s, NL

Instructor: Paula French, Conservator & Preservation Consultant

This full day, hands-on workshop will introduce some very basic treatment techniques, work set-ups, and materials required for basic treatment of flat, paper-based archival records.  Basic treatment techniques to be discussed include surface cleaning, fastener removal, opening of folded and rolled paper documents, releasing simple creases from paper documents, and stabilizing tears in paper.

All tools and materials will be provided.

Participants are asked to bring along paper-based documents that require any of the above listed treatment.

Archival documents to be treated, WILL NOT be provided.

Registration deadline: Participants must register for this course by  June 22, 2015 .

Fees:    $50 for ANLA members                $75 for non-members

BASIC ARCHIVES — AN INTRODUCTION TO ARCHIVAL PRACTICE

April 13-17, 2015   9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  Suite 201, 15 Hallett Crescent, St. John’s, NL

This five-day workshop is intended to introduce participants to basic archival skills through in-class exercises and “hands-on” demonstrations. Sessions are taught by professional archivists from the provincial archival community.  Topics covered include:

  • Basic archival principles
  • Appraisal and selection
  • Accessioning
  • Arrangement
  • Description
  • Preservation
  • Reference and access

Registration fee: $150 (includes 1-year individual membership)

Registration deadline: Participants must register for this course by April 7, 2015.

Workshop: Preservation of Photographic Images, March 19-20, 2015

The Association of Newfoundland and Labrador Archives presents a workshop on

Preservation of Photographic Images

Dates: March 19-20, 2015 (1.5 days)

Location:  ANLA office – Suite 201, 15 Hallett Crescent, St. John’s, NL

Instructors: Conservator Paula French and well-known Newfoundland and Labrador photograph expert Manny Buchheit

This workshop will discuss the care, storage and handling of historical photographs, negatives, photograph albums and framed images.  The instructors will also discuss policies for the exhibition of photographic images and the reproduction of photographs. The workshop will also include a special half-day session on the history of photography in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Registration fees:                 Members: $75

Non-members: $100

Registration deadline: March 11, 2015
