Accessibility in Archives Virtual Lunch and Learn

The Association of Newfoundland and Labrador Archives is pleased to announce that registration is now open for our upcoming workshop:

Accessibility in Archives Virtual Lunch and Learn with Michael Marlatt!

Join us for an interactive session with Dr. Michael Marlatt—archivist and archival accessibility advocate—on building more accessible digital and physical archival spaces. This workshop brings a person-centered approach to archival accessibility that not only looks to benefit users but also donors, staff, interns and students. Michael will share some concepts and recommendations from his lived experience and previous research. Note that this workshop is not academic in nature and encourages attendee participation. Dr. Marlatt will guide participants through key accessibility concepts and foster a collaborative environment to explore how archival institutions can better include disabled people, neurodivergent individuals, and people living with chronic illnesses.

Facilitator: Dr. Michael Marlatt

Dr. Michael Marlatt is a disabled film archivist, archival producer, and archival accessibility consultant. He received his PhD from York University’s Communications and Culture Program where he examined accessibility gaps in moving image archival education. Michael has previously held archival accessibility workshops with higher education, broadcast archives, government archives, non-profits, and archival professional organizations. He has written on archival accessibility for such journals as The Moving Image, Journal of Film Preservation, and Archival Outlook with a chapter in the book Preserving Disability: Disability and the Archival Profession.
