We’re delighted to invite you to a special Virtual Lunch & Learn featuring Elizabeth Fewer and the Sports Archives of Newfoundland and Labrador (SANL). As excitement builds for the 2025 Canada Games, hosted this August in St. John’s, this timely session offers a look into how the history of sport in Newfoundland and Labrador has been preserved and celebrated through archival collections.
About the Facilitator:
Elizabeth Fewer has been an Archives Technician with The Rooms since 2001. Her primary role has been archival description of collections, including government, private, photographic and cartographic materials and management of the Archives WebGencat database
Elizabeth Fewer will share:
A brief history of the SANL collection and how it came to be
An overview of its content, showcasing the breadth of local sports history. The SANL collection features correspondence, team materials, clippings, over 5,000 photographs, scrapbooks, and organizational records dating back to the 1820s.
A peek at some of the fascinating items housed at The Rooms, including materials from local teams, athletes, and sporting events that shaped community life across the province.
